Qatar
Qatar
It is a dry, hot country with no rivers or lakes but some underground aquifers. It’s primary source of water is now provided by desalination plants.
Qatar was a predominantly bedouin country with trade in pearls, but oil was found in the 1930’s and then later Qatar found one of the world’s largest natural gas reserves which it has been rapidly commercialising over the last decade which has led to phenomenal growth and change to the lifestyle in Qatar.
Qatar is governed by a ruling monarchy with Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani as Emir. Under his leadership the country has transformed from a small economy to the “world’s richest country” in terms of GDP per capita and is a significant player on the world stage in news as the home of Al Jazeera, politics with its role in negotiations in Lebanon, Sudan and most recently with its support of the revolution in Libya, and sports with its successful hosting of the Asian Games in 2006 and with it winning the right to host the FIFA 2022 World Cup.
The trajectory of business opportunities in Qatar has been on a sharp rise for the past decade and will continue to increase exponentially over the decades to come.
